I originally studied graphic design, before teaching visual arts for many years. Living on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria provides me with endless inspiration and ideas.

My artworks move between figurative, imaginative and abstract imagery and I find this changing of perspectives keeps things interesting. A constant theme is the coastal environment shown as semi-realistic or abstracted works. I enjoy sketching or doing quick interpretations outdoors and use these to reference later works.

For me painting is a process of revelation, of addition and subtraction. There is a continuous balance between loose interpretation and considered mark-making.

Painting is an immersive experience. Sometimes I might have a plan, but more often a finished artwork is about the emergence and discovery of something unknown.
